Biography

​

Dr. Hussain is currently a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he also obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering. His research focuses on multifunctional, sustainable, and ultra-high-performance cementitious composites (UHPC) and their durability. He has developed nanocarbon-based ultra-high-performance self-sensing concrete, and seawater sea sand UHPC with intrinsic strain sensing capability, which can be used as a sensor for offshore concrete structures.

He has served as a Research Assistant and a Residential Hall Tutor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In addition, he worked as a Structural Engineer for over a year and a half at Zenith International. This consulting firm provides technical support for new constructions and retrofitting existing infrastructures. During this time, he worked with esteemed professional engineer Prof. Dr. Shuaib Ahmed (former Chief Engineer, ACI) and contributed to various projects at Zenith International.

Professionally, he is a Registered Engineer (RE) at the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and a Member of the Institute of Engineers, Pakistan (IEP). In addition, he is a Professional Affiliated Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), The Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM) and the Asian Concrete Federation (ACF).

He has been part of the Aga Khan Planning and Building Support Programme (AKBSP) as an intern. The agency works on development program areas such as habitat risk reduction, energy-efficient building and construction improvement, water supply and sanitation, and natural resources conservation. He worked with an energy-efficient Building and Construction Improvement Programme (BACIP).

He is actively involved with the Board of Literacy and Development (BOLD), which seeks to offer educational support, scholarships, and awareness initiatives for students in remote regions. Additionally, he has organized workshops and career guidance seminars for students across Pakistan. He was also a dedicated member of DUT Magnolias, an international student association focused on environmental protection awareness at Dalian University of Technology in China.​
