Dr. Engr. Abasal Hussain
BEng, MEng, PhD, RE, Aff.MASCE, MACI, MIEP
Doctor of Philosophy
Dr. Hussain completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. His research focuses on multifunctional ultra-high-performance concrete and durability. He has developed novel smart construction materials, known as nCB-UHPC, which feature both exceptional mechanical performance and intrinsic sensing capabilities for real-time monitoring of concrete structures. This advanced material functions as a real time sensor, allowing for the early detection of structural deficiencies caused by varying loads and environmental conditions. By providing early warnings of potential damage or deterioration, it can help protect structures, reduce rehabilitation costs, and save human lives. Repairing, rehabilitating, or rebuilding structures that no longer meet safety standards can be extremely expensive and time-consuming. To address these challenges, smart concrete represents a groundbreaking approach to structural health monitoring (SHM).
He has completed his Master of Engineering (MEng) in Structural Engineering and his Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Civil Engineering at Dalian Univerity of Technology and Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, respectively.
